Welcome to Slow Spun.

Slow Spun is a Northcote based, handcraft micro-business.

I specialise in spinning and knitting luxury fibres, mostly fine merino, silk and alpaca, with the odd cashmere and mohair goat, camel and rabbit fleece for variety. Fibre is sourced mainly from regional Victoria (particularly the Euroa district) and from the North West coast of Tasmania.
Handspun wool is light, soft, airy and very very warm. It’s especially good for sensitive people who normally can’t wear wool next to their skin. Luxury fibres in particular, are soft and delightful to wear.
Slow Spun’s hats, scarves, mittens, necklaces are originally designed and completely made by hand. Inspiration for many of the designs come from traditional Norweigan motifs, but with an individual Northcote twist. They make wonderful presents! Slow Spun can also supply handspun yarn for that special project.
Slow Spun is happy to take commissions and to create work to your desires. Contact Janet on slowspun@gmail.com

First blog! 30th July 2011

Slow Spun is a Northcote based, handcraft micro-business.

This is a photo of our very first stall, held at the Ceres organic food market on Saturday the 18th June 2011. We had a fantastic day with lots of interest in the product. People were fascinated with the spinning and asked lots of questions about the process and admiring the finished work. I bumped into lots of people I knew but hadn't seen for a while so it was a lot of social fun. People bought lots, so it was a profitible day. And I got quite a few orders as well. Altogether Miriam and I had a great time. I great introduction to the scarey process of putting our passion and work out into the public domain.
